In the northern area of the port of Denia, there is an important marine area, the LIC ((Site of Community Importance (SCI))of La Almadrava. There are 2,239 hectares declared as SCI, SPA and SAC, where a large reef-barrier of Posidonia of exceptional interest stands out.

They are very important for their oxygen production, offer shelter and are a breeding ground for a large number of species. They consolidate the coastline bottoms, stop the transport of sediments as well as the waves. Their accumulation on the beaches protects them from erosion, especially during storms.
